MERAPI HIKING REPORT: Rolling Fog Came Down

Today hiking on volcano Merapi mostly done until around crater rim, previously crater rim of Kawah Mati. This point is accessible approx 1 hour hike from Pasar Bubrah, a most popular resting point previous to summit push. On May, rain still occurred on Merapi, and gas sulphure smoke can be higher in accumulation due to evaporation. On May 11 - 12, 2013 in fact...the gas sulphure got thicker / higher accumulation but the alert level of the volcano was still on Normal Active or level 1, so that very okey for hiking.

The hiking activity on volcano Merapi still done safely by both local or worldwide hikers on this first month of dry season. On May 11, 2013, most hikers already hiked up in late afternoon, and night from hiking Basecamp heads for camp sites over 2000 m for rest / overnight and did summit push on next early morning day to catch most possible better weather.Hiking to crater rim is normally done on good time, push on clear weather, and down or stop when the weather get worst.

On May 12,2013,the rolling fog had already came down in morning, then followed by rain in late afternoon. Some hikers got wet on trail down to the hiking basecamp, the common starting points and finishing points of Merapi hiking.During on first dry season ( May ) raincoat/rain jacket/poncho is absolutely brought during on Merapi hiking - trekking.
